Kinesiology is an exercise-based treatment approach for individuals looking to improve their health and fitness, return to work or sport following an injury or motor-vehicle accident*, or prevent and address chronic health conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, obesity, osteoporosis and sarcopenia.

Following an assessment of your goals, health history, and current abilities, you will receive a personalized exercise or rehabilitation program and ongoing coaching from a Registered Kinesiologist.

Most sessions in the clinic will focus on strength training and aerobic training. Depending on your needs and goals, sessions may also include: speed training, plyometric training, ballistic training, and anaerobic training.

In your first few sessions, you will learn how to perform each exercise safely and effectively. As your strength and fitness improves, your kinesiologist will adjust your training program to ensure you are always positively challenged but never asked to do something you can’t do.

If you’re looking to overcome injury, manage a chronic health condition, or perform better at work, in sport or in everyday life, kinesiology may be right for you.

*Please Note: **ICBC customers are able to access 12 pre-authorized active rehabilitation (kinesiology) sessions without prior approval. This appointment must be booked within 12 weeks of the injury date and be the first ICBC assessment being completed**.

Physiotherapist, Certified Yoga Instructor BScPT, FCAMPT, FDN

Christine has been with Treloar since 1994. A Queen’s University graduate, she moved to BC in 1990 and initially practiced in the hospital setting before making the move to private practice. In 1998 she successfully completed the requirements for the Advanced Diploma of Manual and Manipulative Therapy (FCAMT). She is now extensively involved in teaching and mentoring upcoming candidates for this certificate.

Christine believes that physiotherapy is a partnership between client and therapist and enjoys her role as facilitator and educator. She has a particular interest in pelvic joints, hip and lower limb problems and, as a dedicated runner she enjoys tackling the biomechanical problems that can interfere with successful training. Her passion for yoga has led her to certify as a yoga instructor and she uses this expertise to help interested clients explore the most beneficial approach to their own asana practice, and learn how to safely modify in order to accommodate existing injuries. In addition to her exercise and hands-on manual therapy skills Christine is excited to have recently added FDN Functional Dry Needling to her toolkit. She is enjoying integrating this powerful technique into the treatment of select clients with myofascial and persistent pain issues.

Outside the office: In her free time you’ll find her running in the neighborhood, rollerblading the seawall, biking the Lower Mainland, reading at the beach, zigzagging across the golf course, or maybe, off on her latest travel adventure.

I attended UBC Okanagan (UBCO). I am trained in exercise prescription. I grew up playing competitive tennis and represented UBCO’s tennis club playing across Western Canada. Prior to joining Treloar, I worked as a Personal Trainer and I was also the head coach for the Special Olympics Powerlifting and Club Fit program.

I live and breathe health and fitness. I want to educate and reach more people in understanding the importance of prescribed clinical exercise and the ways it can facilitate those with pain. I want people to choose exercise as not just something to do when they are in pain, but something to do to prevent pain and become part of their routine lifestyle.

I am passionate about pushing myself physically! For example: doing a 5 rep max back squat 2 times my body weight, winning a 3 hour tennis match from being down match point, training for a half iron man race (cancelled 2 months before race date due to covid), and running 10km sub 50 minutes. I was not born with the greatest athletic gifts, I was never the strongest, fastest or had the best cardio; but with a written plan, discipline and relentless mentality, you can do almost anything you set your mind to.

I completed by physiotherapy degree in my hometown at University College Dublin, Ireland. I started my physiotherapy career in Ireland and then decided to make the move to Canada in 2020. I have worked in a wide array of public and private settings in both Ireland and Canada, treating clients of varying ages and injuries. I have further certification in IMS dry needling, concussion and vestibular rehabilitation and clinical Pilates.

I have always had a keen interest in sport which naturally led to me having my own fair share of injuries over the years, so I can empathize with the frustration that can go along with not being able to do what you love. I am passionate about meeting the rehabilitation needs of every individual that I work with and helping people get back to doing the activities they enjoy.

Treloar has an exceptional team of physiotherapists with a vast range of knowledge and experience. I was drawn to Treloar because of the many opportunities for continued education and growth and the friendly supportive environment in the clinic.

Outside of work I love staying active and being outdoors – one of the very reasons I moved to Vancouver in the first place! When I am not in the clinic, you can find me running, hiking, competing in triathlons or skiing.

I have lived and worked in cities all over the world including Central Coast (Aus), Sydney (Aus), London (UK) and now Vancouver in Canada!

I became a Les Mills fitness Instructor in 2012 and am qualified in 6 of their programs. I also hold the title of Master Trainer from the Australian Institute of Fitness. I became a personal trainer in 2016 and have enjoyed being able to progress people through a variety of training programs to help them achieve their fitness goals and helping them live their lives pain free.

I have always loved being active and encourage others around me to do the same. I love to educate people on the mechanics of their bodies to help get them out of pain and back to living their lives happily and injury-free. Physiotherapy was the perfect career choice for me. For me, Physiotherapy has presented such a wide range of opportunities to work with amazing people and travel all over the world. I have worked in Australia, England and now Canada!

I chose to work at Treloar because I am passionate about Clinical Pilates. Treloar has a beautiful Pilates studio and a fantastic team of Physiotherapists. The opportunities for growth and development in this team are amazing.

I am personally passionate about fitness. I have been a Les Mills fitness Instructor for over 10 years and I love being able to share my passion for fitness with people. I also love trail running which has led me to complete several ultramarathons including the Squamish 50 Mile in 2019—my biggest achievement to date. I am also passionate about travel. I love to explore and meet new people. I have travelled to over 27 countries and can’t wait to continue to add more countries to my list and experience new cultures!

I am a born-and-raised Vancouverite and was for many years an Internationally ranked, competitive Irish Dancer. I completed a Bachelor of Kinesiology, followed by a Masters in Physical Therapy at the University of British Columbia. I have a love for learning which has propelled me to immerse myself in many courses over the years! I have completed my advanced training in manual therapy and I am a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT), I am qualified in STOTT Rehabilitative Matwork and Reformer Pilates, as well as Dry Needling. I am also a certified Irish Dance Teacher (TCRG), and have a special interest in working with a broad range of dancers and all athletes.

My first encounter to physiotherapy was due to dance injuries, and it was through successive treatments that I experienced the powerful role that physiotherapists can play in someone’s life. I’ve always loved exercising and movement, and it’s truly the best feeling when I can help someone get back to their sport and activities, and empower them to move better.

I choose to work at Treloar because I love being part of a team and Treloar has the absolute best team. It’s a work environment where the therapists continually elevate each other’s practices and support one another.

Growing up in the prairies (Winnipeg MB), I am still getting used to the hills and mountains of BC. I completed my Bachelor of Kinesiology with a double major in cellular biology from the University of Manitoba. I then moved out East to complete my Master of Science in Physical Therapy in 2019 at the University of Toronto. Since then, I have completed continuing education courses in manual therapy, medical acupuncture, dry needling/IMS, electro-IMS, myofascial cupping and spinal manipulation to add to my toolbox for clinical care. I have a special interest in the upper quadrant - especially TMJ (jaw), neck, and shoulder patients.

Musculoskeletal anatomy and physiology were my favourite courses in my undergraduate degree; with this in mind, physiotherapy was a great fit! I’ve always loved anything hands on, whether it be playing the piano, racket related sports or painting, so physiotherapy was a great ‘hands on’ health profession that jived with my academic interests. It has been a great choice ever since!

Coming from Manitoba and having completed my physiotherapy Masters in Ontario, Treloar is well-known across the entire country for having a high standard of care for their patients. With continuing education and mentorship being a strong pillar for the clinicians working at Treloar, there is always opportunity for growth and taking things to the ‘next level’ in clinical care and practice. Such a great environment to be in!

What are you personally passionate about? One aspect of physiotherapy that really sparks passion in me is clinical instructing and educating. I’ve worked intimately with the University of Toronto in mentoring new graduates in their transition from academic life into the professional working life, as well as clinical instructing University of Manitoba students on clinical internships. There is always a sense of satisfaction when they get the ‘Aha!’ moments. I have a clinical faculty appointment with UBC as a clinical instructor, taking physiotherapy Masters students on their internships to expose them to orthopaedic practice.

Outside of the clinic, you’ll probably find me trying out new places to eat or checking off another location on my list of dessert places to try. Being new to the B.C. area, I have a lot of food places to explore!

Drew completed his Master of Science in Physical Therapy degree from Queen’s University. As a student physical therapist he gained experience working in orthopedics for various conditions, acute stroke, and COPD rehabilitation. Before attending Queen’s, he received his Bachelor of Kinesiology with a specialization in Exercise Science from the University of the Fraser Valley. He previously worked as a kinesiologist at Treloar Physiotherapy Clinic, at an orthotics company, as an athletic trainer, and with individuals living with stroke. He chose to pursue a career in rehabilitation after personally utilizing physiotherapy for many foot and ankle injuries during his time as a collegiate volleyball player. The skills and knowledge of other physiotherapists intrigued him and made him want to learn how to manage these aches and pains for himself and others. Outside of work Drew enjoys travelling and looking for new places to eat (he says this is because he is not a good cook!) He also likes to golf even though it frustrates him endlessly.

I grew up on Vancouver Island and completed a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Victoria. Soon after, I moved to Vancouver to complete the Master of Physical Therapy program at the University of British Columbia. During the program, I also obtained a Level 1 Diploma of Advanced Orthopaedic Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy. I then completed the Calibrate Clinical Pilates course.

During my undergraduate years, I volunteered with diverse populations in hospital and private-practice settings. Through these experiences, I developed a keen interest in helping individuals return to the activities that are important to them. It’s incredibly fulfilling to help others enhance their well-being and daily functioning.

During the Master of Physical Therapy program, I was lucky to carry out a clinical placement at Treloar and learn from various physiotherapists at this clinic. I was struck by their skillfulness and knowledge, as well as their exceptional communication with clients and one another. I feel grateful to be a part of the team at Treloar.

I’m enthusiastic about doing what brings me joy and supporting others to do the same. I love being outdoors, running, playing the harp, crafting, practicing Pilates, and spending time with family and friends.

Deb Treloar graduated from UBC in 1979 with a Bachelors Degree in Rehabilitation Sciences. She and her husband Bill started Treloar Physiotherapy Clinic in 1982 in a small office on Broadway in Vancouver. She completed the Advanced Diploma of Orthopaedic and Manipulative Therapy in 1984 and became a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapists. Deb taught extensively in the Canadian Manual Therapy Course system for a number of years. She developed a foot and ankle course for physiotherapists that she has continued to teach throughout Canada. In 2011, Deb received the Physiotherapy Association of BC Award for Clinical Excellence for her contribution as a clinician and furthering the clinical understanding of the foot and ankle. Deb is a guest lecturer in the Masters of Physical Therapy program at UBC.

Deb has continued to work clinically with clients with all types of problems although her practice has evolved to a large percentage of people with foot and ankle issues. She enjoys treating people of all ages and many years of coaching soccer has given her a lot of experience with adolescents. During the past four years Deb has continued her education by taking a series of Bobath courses (an assessment and treatment approach for people with neurological conditions). She is enjoying applying the neurophysiology and Bobath concept to her orthopaedic patients, as it is a paradigm that involves the interrelationship of all the parts of the body.

Outside the office: Deb plays tennis, soccer and stays healthy skiing, swimming, hiking and kayaking. She loves to spend time with her family and at the family cabin on Thormanby.

I did my undergraduate studies in Kinesiology at SFU and my graduate studies in Kinesiology at UBC. Growing up, I was involved in many sports but mostly played soccer. During my time at SFU, I was volunteering with the athletic therapists, providing care and treatment to varsity athletes recovering from injuries. Since graduation and prior to joining Treloar, I worked as a Personal Trainer and Kinesiologist at a fitness studio, helping individuals build strength and confidence to lead active lives!

Exercise has played a very important role in my life. I think being active and exercising is one of the best ways someone can take care of themselves, and I love to teach people how to exercise and help instill in them the confidence that they can exercise. I want to help break down barriers preventing people from being active, so they can also find the same value in exercise that I have.

I choose to work at Treloar as here everyone strives for excellence, which is something I value personally and in my practice! Recovery can be hard but with a supportive group of practitioners that continuously strives to be the best and provide the best care to their patients, it becomes a little easier. Outside of the clinic, I am passionate about sports and trying out new activities! I like to be open to new experiences and challenges because there’s no better way of proving what I’m capable of doing.

I have worked as a kinesiologist since I graduated with a Bachelor’s of Human Kinetics with a focus in clinical physiology from UBC-Okanagan in 2020. Since then, I have been fortunate to work with a wide range of clients for a variety of health and fitness goals – including varsity athletes, Special Olympics athletes, post motor vehicle accidents rehabilitation, workplace injuries and individuals looking to improve their overall health. Whilst working with these clients I have learnt how to improve client focused care by individualizing treatment to enhance the process and progression of all goals. This concept allows me to work with the client to build lifelong tools. Over the past 3 years, I have realized that my favourite part of the job is watching people gain independence through exercise and find which physical activities bring them the most joy. Whether this activity is playing with grandchildren, running a marathon or simply improving strength to load the car up after a big Costco shop, developing physical independence is of utmost importance for quality of life.

From a young age, I discovered that physical health can have mental health benefits. I was always playing different types of sports but it wasn’t until the middle of high-school that I began to use strength training as a way to help manage my anxiety and stress. I not only fell in love with strength training, but it also improved my performance in other sports. I noticed quickly that there was lack of female presence in strength training and sports which inspired me to go into post-secondary education related to exercise and health so I can educate, represent as a role model and share the benefits of physical activity with others.

Treloar offers an environment that is motivating and supportive. I’ve had clients benefit from this environment due to the open gym concept that allows them to participate alongside others in physical activity, towards the united goal of improving health. I believe that using physical activity for enriching someone’s health is a huge component many people are currently missing in their lives. Being able to work in this environment with supportive mentors and collaborative methods is truly gratifying.

I am personally passionate about lifting others up to achieve their goals but stay grounded in the fact that only they will be able to push themselves through the finish line. As a therapist I can educate, support and provide tools/techniques for each client, but it is ultimately the clients who achieve those once-impossible activities. My favourite part of this job is the feeling I get when a client comes in and shares their accomplishments with me, after working together and using the tools I shared.

I have worked as a kinesiologist since I graduated with a Bachelor’s of Human Kinetics with a fo... Read More
